Why Insect Pollinators Important in Crop Improvement?

Abstract: Three out of four plants provide fruits or seeds for human consumption as crops rely on insect pollinators across the world. Many fruit and vegetable crops such as almonds, apples, cranberries, melons, broccoli, cherries and blueberries are dependent upon insect pollinator services Thus, healthy and nutritious diet to humans is offered by the bee pollinators. These natural servants help in the fertilization and seed setting of 87 major food plants. Crop pollinators are in danger, and modern agronomic practices… Show more

“…Air temperature is a climatic factor that greatly affects plant phenological processes. Fruit formation is influenced by various factors, including pollinator effectiveness (Abrol et al 2019;Tanda 2022), endogenous factors (Yuan and Yang 2018;Yan et al 2019;Bu et al 2020), the number and synchronization of male and female flower maturity (Handayani 2016;Oliveira et al 2019;Fathin et al 2021), and environmental factors (Lestari and Fiqa 2020;Zhang et al 2022). Endogenous factors influence, for example, morphological and anatomical chemical construction, such as the content of carbohydrates, water, minerals, nutritional status, and growth hormone.…”

“…However, it's important to note that pesticides can also impact bee pollinators and are not a specific response to safeguard the bee world [110,111]. Egan [111] introduced a newly designed strategy called integrated pest and pollinators management (IPPM), which aims to integrate crop pollinators, and bio-control agents, and minimize pesticide use to enhance agriculture food production [112][113][114][115][116][117][118]. This strategy, which we propose to call "Pollinator and Integrated Pest Management Technology (PIPMT)," represents a holistic approach to managing pests below economic injury levels while promoting agriculture food production.…”

“…Further, the crop pollination mechanism now known as entpollinatology (Tanda, 2021c), the significance of flower assets and nesting site environment, major groups of pollinators with specific needs has become more significant. The insufficient reports may result in irrelevant activities for the conservation of endangered bee pollinators (Wilson et al, 2017;Schatz, 2020;Penn, 2021;Tanda, 2019Tanda, , 2021a.…”
