Whole Body Vibration Triggers a Change in the Mutual Shaping State of Intestinal Microbiota and Body's Immunity

Abstract: Whole body vibration (WBV) is a non-invasive physical therapy that has recently been included in the hospital's patient rehabilitation training catalog, but its health effects have not been sufficiently studied. In the present study, to examine the possible effects of WBV on immune cell differentiation, the IFN, IL-4,−17, F4/80 and CD3,−4,−8,−11b,−11c,−19 markers were used to characterizing the cells in mouse spleen. The results showed that the CD4 and CD25 positive lymphocytes in the spleen were significantly… Show more

“…Additionally, WBV is also responsible for alterations in the fecal microbiome, increasing Bacteroides, especially the ones belonging to the Alistipes genus of the Rikenellaceae family. The recent findings of Song et al [151] revealed additional effects of WBV therapy on intestinal microbiota. In their study, mice and human volunteers were placed on a WBV platform for 30 min daily, over 30 days.…”

“…Another feasible and perhaps novel strategy to stimulate the GMB is whole body vibration (WBV). WBV is a non-invasive physical therapy which is often included in patient rehabilitation programs [151]. This technique mimics mild effects of physical activity on the body and is capable of improving performance in athletes and even rehabilitating the musculoskeletal tissues of astronauts due to the prolonged absence of gravity [152].…”

“…Repeated bouts of acute exercise have been shown to enhance production of anti-inflammatory cytokines (i.e., IL-10) and myokines [61], contributing to reduced inflammation [62] as well as a reduced pro-inflammatory cytokine production [63] and an increased anti-inflammatory cytokine production [64], all of which might have an important protective role in this virus. A recent study by Song et al [35] aimed at assessing the possible effects of WBV on immune cell differentiation and inflammatory markers reported significant increases in lymphocyte and Treg cells normally associated with improvements in the inflammation barrier function. Blanks et al [36] also assessed the impact of WBV on the immune system in healthy participants (ages 18-45 y) (14 Hz, 2.5 mm,~2.1 g) with 10 sets of 1 min vibration periods followed by 30 s of standing rest.…”

“…WBVT is a standard training method for improving athletic performance and maintaining astronauts’ skeletal muscle mass and strength, which gradually becomes a focus in exercise rehabilitation ( Song et al, 2019 ). Previous research has investigated the effects and mechanisms of WBVT for various medical conditions.…”
