Who reports high company performance? A quantitative study of Chinese listed companies in the energy industry

Abstract: In the increasingly competitive environment, top managers’ background characteristics are undoubtedly vital factors for company performance. This study examines whether the performance of Chinese listed companies in the energy industry differs with respect to top managers’ background characteristics and explores the exact distribution interval of top managers’ background characteristics when company performance reaches the highest level. The initial sample was collected from the CSMAR database (2005–2014) for … Show more

“…The CRITIC-TOPSIS method relies on mathematical matrix operations, making the selection of appropriate indicator data crucial for an effective evaluation of financial risk. In this study, a comprehensive approach was taken by combining previous research [41,42], considering the specific characteristics of Chinese listed companies [43], a careful screening and division process was applied to the initially gathered 46 indicators, excluding less indicative variables for enterprise performance prediction and eliminating similar variables. As a result, an index system comprising 27 indicators at 6 levels was constructed.…”

“…If the p value is greater than the significance level α (α is set as 0.05), it means that the variance is homogeneous, and the F test can be selected; if the p value is less than the significance level α (α is set as 0.05), this indicates that the variance is not homogeneous, and the F test cannot be selected. According to the research conducted by Welch [68] and Guo et al [69], when the variances are not homogeneous, the Welch test can be selected to compare the differences between the means of each group. The homogeneity of variance test of individual personality characteristics is shown in Table 6.…”
