Abstract: Caregiver burden was proposed as the strongest adjusted predictor for caregivers' poor QOL. Therefore, it seems that interventions to reduce caregiver burden can be effective in enhancing caregivers' QOL.

“…These findings are consistent with previous research on quality of life in patients with dementia and other conditions. [36][37][38][39] However, it is important to note that the amount of variability in caregiver HRQOL explained by sociodemographic factors, caregiving time, perceived care burden, and dementia-related clinical factors across all the models is rather small. This implies that HRQOL ideally needs to be assessed by self-report rather than inferred from indirect data such as subjective caregiver burden.…”

“…Dementia and cognitive impairment are the major causes for the development of long-term impairment in activities of daily living [ 13 15 ] and are the main contributing factor to institutionalization in the elderly population [ 16 ], emphasizing the need for appropriate service and intervention programs. Dementia is also a burden for family care givers who often show high levels of psychological morbidity [ 17 ] and reduced quality of life [ 18 ]. Dementia patients have increased mortality compared to non-demented people [ 19 – 21 ].…”
