Which factors are most predictive for live birth after in vitro fertilization and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI) treatments? Analysis of 100 prospectively recorded variables in 8,400 IVF/ICSI single-embryo transfers

Abstract: Based on 100 variables prospectively recorded during a 15-year period, a model for live birth prediction after strict SET was constructed and showed excellent calibration in internal validation. For the first time, female height qualified as a predictor of live birth after IVF/ICSI.

“…Our results are in agreement with previous findings in which cryopreservation of all viable blastocysts after ICSI followed by a subsequent FET cycle improved implantation when compared with fresh ET (13,31,32). The statistically significant difference in endometrial thickness might not be an important factor in light of studies that have found no correlation between endometrial thickness >10 mm and assisted reproduction outcomes (33).…”

“…This association between female age and LBR was nonlinear, with marked decreases in LBR after 28, 35 and 38 years of age ( Vaegter et al , 2017 ). Some studies dichotomized age into two categories, <35 or ≥35 years ( Sharma et al , 2002 ).…”

“…All three predictors were associated with higher pregnancy likelihoods after IVF. In all the studies, better embryo quality was associated with higher likelihoods of pregnancy, but since these studies used different factors or combinations of embryo factors to report embryo quality, it was not possible to pool the data and calculate a summary OR ( Vaegter et al , 2017 ). The number of embryos top ≥2 used as best benchmark corresponded to values equal to or higher than the mean of those found previously in the patients who achieved clinical pregnancies in our clinic.…”

“…28 Concerning perinatal outcomes, ICSI for male factor infertility was also not associated with changes in length of gestation, baby birth weight, sex ratio, rate of pregnancy loss and congenital malformations in other reports. [28][29][30] The main limitations of this study are (i) its retrospective nature and (ii) the fact that male factor was defined as the cause of infertility, but it was not subdivided into different male infertility diagnoses as they exist for female factor infertility, so the severity of the male factor infertility could not be determined.…”
