“…This kind of system forms low-gradient ramps, has a high capacity to fill the accommodation at shallow-water shelf, and can be affected by storm waves even below the inflection point of clinoforms. Indeed, slope angles in seismic observations doenot exceed 1°during most of the Tithonian and Berriasian interval, reaching maximum inclination of clinoform slopes of approximately 2°around the JurassicCretaceous boundary and in the lower Valanginian (Mitchum and Uliana, 1985;Reijenstein et al, 2015) (see Figure 3). This basin architecture change is reflected in the lower Valanginian part of the Cerro Caicayén section, where small scars and slumps are present, and coincides with the change of depositional system from a low-gradient carbonate ramp to a mixed siliciclastic shelf at the Yesera del Tromen and Puerta Curaco sections.…”

“…The Quintuco depositional system is characterized by a significantly higher input of siliciclastic material, marking a significant change in paleoenvironment. In contrast to distal positions, such as the study area, subsurface seismic sections (Mitchum and Uliana, 1985;Leanza et al, 2011;Reijenstein et al, 2014Reijenstein et al, , 2015 show a general progradational pattern, with an initial strong progradational low clinoform angle (<1°) system, which changes to an aggradational-progradational system with highest clinoform angles (2°-3°) around the JurassicCretaceous boundary. Toward the Valanginian the system becomes clastic and reduces again the clinoform angle (~1°).…”
