When the digital twin meets the preventive conservation of movable wooden artifacts

Abstract: To achieve sustainable heritage conservation, preventive conservation has gradually taken precedence over curative conservation, because it can inhibit the damage caused by various environmental factors and maximizes the preservation life of the artifacts. Due to susceptibility to environmental factors, preventive conservation has been used in the conservation of movable wooden artifacts to further protect them. Recently, digital twin technology, as a concept that transcends reality, can be mapped in virtual s… Show more

“…Given the multidimensional impact between the research structure and hypotheses, this study utilizes Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) technology. SEM enables the simultaneous testing of relationships among potential structures [21], ensuring more stable estimations of data. Social science statistical packages, including SPSS and AMOS, are employed for all analyses in this study.…”

“…Building upon this standard, the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) and the Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) have outlined the implementation steps for cultural heritage risk management in "A Guide to Risk Management of Cultural Heritage" (identifying relevant factors, recognizing, analyzing, assessing, addressing, monitoring). In accordance with the international recognition of cultural heritage risk management, digital twins offer signi cant advantages [21]. The theoretical framework of "historical digital twins" proposed by [22] applies digital twins to the development and evolution of risk prediction, damage, and possible intervention measures in heritage.…”

“…At the same time, the use of DTs supported by HBIM strategies has made it possible to integrate both technologies into a decision support system based on artificial intelligence (in this case machine learning techniques) for the management of museum collections in historical architectures [74]. There are also experiences in the use of DTs for the conservation of cultural artefacts [75].…”
