When Is Sentinel Node Biopsy Indicated in High-Risk Ductal Carcinoma in situ? Four Hundred Sixty-Eight Cases from Three Institutions

Abstract: Introduction: Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is not indicated. However, in certain cases (size >3 cm, high grade, mass effect on mammography, or palpable mass), it may be possible to find incidental invasive carcinoma (IC) that requires an SLNB. We studied the correlation of the aforesaid factors with the probability of finding IC in the surgical specimen. Methods: Data was collected from … Show more

“…The following question arose from our research; was an anterior lymph node biopsy required in patients with ductal carcinoma around the breast? Previous studies failed to reach conclusions on this issue, and performing sentinel lymph node biopsy in DCIS remains a dilemma (29)(30)(31).Some previous studies have reviewed LNM risk factors in patients with DCIS (32,33). In our study, we provided new evidence identifying LNM predictors in patients with DCIS, and also assessed their predictive power.…”
