“…Procambarus clarkii has been associated with declines in macrophytes, macroinvertebrates, amphibians, fish, and native crayfish (Gherardi, 2006;Twardochleb, Olden & Larson, 2013). A population of P. clarkii has recently established in the Chicago River in Illinois, USA (Taylor & Tucker, 2005;Peters et al, 2014), where it has been a target of research and eradication efforts (O'Shaughnessey & Keller, 2019). In this study, we deployed dead P. clarkii (removed from the Chicago River) in a stream enclosure experiment and collected water samples to examine relationships between the decay of crayfish carcasses and detection of eDNA.…”

“…
The red swamp crayfish Procambarus clarkii is native to northern Mexico and the southern and south-eastern United States. It was introduced in China from Japan in the 1930s (Lodge et al, 2000;O'Shaughnessey & Keller, 2019;Shen et al, 2014). Due to its high nutritional value combined with a unique flavour, it has great economic value and is extensively cultured in China (Kang et al, 2019;Meng et al, 2019).
