What Type of Industrial Agglomeration Is Beneficial to the Eco-Efficiency of Northwest China?

Abstract: The contradiction between industrial economic development and the ecological environment in Northwest China is prominent, so the green transformation of industrial economy in this region is imperative. From the perspective of industrial ecology, this study uses economic and environmental statistics from Northwest China from 2006 to 2018 as well as the Krugman specialization index and entropy index methods to calculate the degree of different types of industrial agglomeration in Northwest China. The eco-efficie… Show more

“…With the comprehensive development of the social economy, people tend to make higher demands regarding environmental quality, influence the government's environmental regulation, and influence the production and pollution behavior of enterprises through their consumption preference and the pressure of public opinion [19]. Further, the process of urbanization produces positive externalities, thus reducing environmental damage through economies of scale, the agglomeration effect, the resource reallocation effect, and so on [57][58][59]. Compared with social and economic factors, natural factors play a more stable role in the influence of FDI on PM 2.5 pollution in the Sichuan-Chongqing urban agglomeration.…”

“…Additionally, the Green Development Index System was also released in the same year [6]. However the resource-rich northwestern region of the Silk Road faces significant contradictions between economic development and industrial greenization due to its high dependence on industrial development [7]. This could lead to a lack of applicability of the nationwide indicator system in the northwest region.…”

“…In terms of research content, the ecological environmental effect evaluation is consistent with the research on ecological security and ecological risk. This is divided into two different dimensions based on patterns and processes that correspond to the changes in the static distribution and dynamic evolution process of each component in the ecosystem caused by external pressure [36].…”
