“…Women are very interested in self-sampling techniques for the diagnosis of vaginal infections (Mercer, Taylor, Fricke, Baselski, & Sibai, 1995;Serlin et al, 2002). Diagnosis based on selfobtained vaginal samples has previously been reported for bacterial vaginosis, Chlamydia, group B Streptococcus infection, and human papillomavirus (Coutlee, Hankins, & Lapointe, 1997;Domeika & Drulyte, 2000;Domeika et al, 1999;Mercer et al, 1995;Sturm, Moodley, Nzimande, Balkistan, Connolly, & Sturm 2002;Wiesenfeld, Heine, Rideout, Macio, DiBiasi, & Sweet, 1996) However, these sampling procedures have not necessarily been practical for repeated samples by the patient, which could be stored and turned in at a later date or for mailed in specimens.…”

“…Because STI clinics yield many diagnoses (CDC, 2011), researchers have examined people's rationales for visiting such clinics (Hambly et al, 2006;Hitchings et al, 2009;Ross et al, 2006;Serlin et al, 2002). This research suggests that various factors are influential.…”
