“…Existing studies have confirmed that this considerable gap in agricultural mechanization can be attributed to inferior farmland conditions (e.g., scattered plots, steep slopes, and low-quality soil), which render farmland unsuitable for mechanized agriculture. Therefore, implementing FCAM (which entails such processes as enlarging plots, land leveling, soil improvement, and ecological protection) in hilly terrain is indispensable to promoting mechanized agriculture ( Yin et al., 2022 ). Moreover, the use of land suitability analysis in FCAM can contribute to the sustainable development of rural marginal areas ( Zhang et al., 2019a ) by indicating the most suitable farmland plots, which has both economic and ecological benefits, increasing crop yield and improving soil properties, contributing to a long-term purpose—achieving modern agriculture and food security ( Wessels et al., 2003 ; Fan et al., 2018 ).…”

“…The formulation of objectives such as the supply-side structural reform of agriculture and the rural revitalization strategy has caused a paradigm shift in the rural development agenda (Shao, 2022;J. Wang et al, 2023;Yin et al, 2022). The focus of agriculture development has evolved from a simple emphasis on increasing agricultural GDP to prioritizing the promotion of high-quality and structured growth (Du & Wang, 2023;Yin et al, 2022).…”

The focus of agriculture development has evolved from a simple emphasis on increasing agricultural GDP to prioritizing the promotion of high-quality and structured growth (Du & Wang, 2023;Yin et al, 2022). Since the initiation of the rural revitalization strategy, the state has implemented numerous policies to support agriculture and rural areas across various regions (Kazemi & Hosseinpour, 2022;Liu et al, 2023;.…”

“…With the implementation of China's national strategies, such as rural revitalization, land and space planning, and ecological civilization construction, rapid economic development has profoundly affected the transformation of land use and the demand for land consolidation has continued to increase. Therefore, CLC, which takes into account multiple objectives such as supplementing cropland, ecological restoration, remediation of inefficient construction land, and improvement of the living environment, is considered an effective policy tool for solving multi‐objective spatial problems (X. Yin, Feng, et al, 2022; Q. Yin, Sui, et al, 2022). Despite these studies, theoretical and empirical research on CLC are still insufficient, especially case studies on arid oasis regions.…”
