“…Since more than half of the patients in the ED group were from outpatient studies and the BDI-II score was significantly lower in the ED than in the CD group, this could not mainly be a consequence of severity. Though first attempts have been made to identify moderators and mediators (e.g., attachment, emotion dysregulation, and attributional styles [8], or personality disorders [5]) between CM and depression, further research is needed to clarify this association.…”

“…Psychotherapy is hypothesized to be of particular importance in the treatment of patients with a history of CM [1,4,8,9], especially since CM has been linked to maladaptive interpersonal functioning. First studies indicate that CM may moderate the course of depression in favor of a specific psychotherapy (like the cognitive behavioral analysis system of psychotherapy, CBASP) compared to medication [9] or treatment as usual [10].…”

“…Parental past trauma has been found to be associated with PTSD, depression, and somatic complaints among children (Montgomery & Foldspang, 2005; Yehuda & Bierer, 2008). Poor parenting and siblingship, as well as biased and silenced family communication, can underlie children’s vulnerability to parental trauma (Bryant, 2016; Frewen, Brown, DePierro, D’Andrea, & Schore, 2015; Schierholz, Kruger, Barenbrugge, & Ehring, 2016). …”
