What is the role of drug‐coated balloons in chronic total occlusion percutaneous coronary intervention?

Abstract: Key Points Placement of drug eluting stents after successful lesion crossing is the current standard of care in chronic total occlusion percutaneous coronary intervention. A drug‐coated balloon only strategy may be feasible in chronic total occlusion percutaneous coronary intervention, especially with intraplaque crossing. More studies are needed on when and how to use drug‐coated balloons in chronic total occlusion percutaneous coronary intervention.
