Purpose. To present applications of anterior segment optical coherent tomography (AS OCT) for anomalies of the eye in a Polish paediatric cohort. Materials and Methods. Seventy-four eyes of infants and older children were examined. The majority of them underwent general anaesthesia to allow OCT to be performed in the operating room, but a few were examined in a routine way. We focused on corneal, anterior chamber, iris, and lens disorders. Measurements included corneal morphology, anatomy of the anterior chamber, and general involvement of surrounding tissues in pathologic lesions. Results. We divided the paediatric patients into several groups by considering the type of disease and involvement of particular tissues. The groups were selected based on OCT usefulness in describing their ocular disorders. Conclusion. The collected anterior segment disorders showed huge usefulness for paediatric diagnosis and treatment planning.

Due to their non-specific diagnostic patterns of ocular infection, differential diagnosis between Mycobacterium (M.) chimaera and tuberculosis can be challenging. In both disorders, ocular manifestation can be the first sign of a systemic infection, and a delayed diagnosis might reduce the response to treatment leading to negative outcomes. Thus, it becomes imperative to distinguish chorioretinal lesions associated with M. chimaera, from lesions due to M. tuberculosis and other infectious disorders. To date, multimodal non-invasive imaging modalities that include ultra-wide field fundus photography, fluorescein and indocyanine green angiography, optical coherence tomography and optical coherence tomography angiography, facilitate in vivo examination of retinal and choroidal tissues, enabling early diagnosis, monitoring treatment response, and relapse detection. This approach is crucial to differentiate between active and inactive ocular disease, and guides clinicians in their decisional-tree during the patients’ follow-up. In this review, we summarized and compared the available literature on multimodal imaging data of M. chimaera infection and tuberculosis, emphasizing similarities and differences in imaging patterns between these two entities and highlighting the relevance of multimodal imaging in the management of the infections.

Purpose:To quantitatively analyze the dimensions of the gap between the intraocular lens (IOL) and the posterior capsule using microscope-integrated optical coherence tomography (MIOCT). Setting: Institutional. Design: Prospective, interventional. Methods: A total of 105 eyes of 105 consecutive patients planned for phacoemulsification with IOL implantation were enrolled. At the end of surgery, the gap between the IOL and the posterior capsule (IOL-PC gap) was measured using MIOCT (RESCAN). The same gap was reassessed at 1 week follow-up visit using the Visante-OCT system. The cases were subgrouped based on the grade of cataract, IOL material, size and design and were analyzed to look for any difference in the IOL-PC gap both intraoperatively and postoperatively. Results: The IOL-PC gap could be successfully measured intra-operatively in all cases, using the RESCAN. The mean gap at the end of phacoemulsification was 385.08±264.58 µm, and at one week follow up this was 120.83± 95.13 µm. Conclusion:MIOCT may be successfully used to quantify the dimensions of the gap between the IOL and the posterior capsule. It can be used as a potential tool to further understand the dynamics of the IOL-PC space and to assess the impact of various IOL and non-IOL parameters implicated in the causation of posterior capsule opacification.
