What is Nutritional Medicine?

Abstract: Nutritional Medicine is based on the principle that nutrients, including essential micronutrients, are required for the proper functioning of all the biochemical processes on which our bodies depend. Therefore, when treating symptoms or diseases, we look for the underlying causes which, although often partly genetic, are usually very much tied up with nutritional and environmental factors. This is in contrast to the tendency in the conventional medical approach to treat symptoms by means of drugs or surgery.

“…While herbal medicine has had a long-standing position in naturopathic practice, clinical nutrition has been adopted into naturopathy more recently. “…As an experienced clinician in Nutritional Medicine [1], and more recently a researcher on the nutrigenomic effects of phytochemicals, I have observed remarkable clinical responses to the crucifer-derived molecule sulforaphane (SFN). So significant are these responses that I have catalogued my findings, and 4 years ago, I conveyed these and my methods of implementation to other clinicians within my sphere of influence.…”
