What is Learned from Polymer Flooding Practices in Offshore Reservoirs?

Abstract: Polymer flooding is very promising chemical enhanced oil recovery technique because it has been widely field tested in many oil fields and commercially applied in several countries in onshore reservoirs. The understanding of polymer flooding mechanisms is still developing, even though the principal mechanism was sweep efficiency increase due to reduced mobility ratio of water and oil due to reduced mobility of water. The incorporation of polymer flooding mechanisms and practical challenges make some projects f… Show more

“…Different chemical methods are used to enhance oil recovery based on the basic principles of improving sweep and displacement efficiencies. The chemical methods used are polymer-augmented waterflooding [1,2], surfactant flooding [3], alkaline flooding [4], CO 2augmented water flooding [5], and miscible/immiscible CO 2 displacement [6]. Polymers have been utilized in the hydrocarbon industry for many years [1,2].…”
