“…Recently, two consecutive international consensus meetings made several points. [12][13][14] including that LLS can be safely performed laparoscopically and should be the new standard of care. This study was designed to determine whether laparoscopic LLS can be considered the first choice for treating intrahepatic left lateral surgical diseases.…”

“…According to the recommendations for laparoscopic liver resection from the two international consensus meetings, however, the laparoscopic approach to left lateral sectionectomy (LLS) should be considered the new standard of care. [12][13][14] This study aimed to verify the feasibility and safety of laparoscopic liver resection by comparing laparoscopic LLS with open LLS and to determine if the laparoscopic approach can be recommended as a gold standard for the treatment of liver diseases requiring LLS.…”

“…As experience with laparoscopic liver resection progresses, the complexity of attempted resections has increased . A proposed international consensus scoring system, the Iwate criteria, exists to help identify which tumors may be more appropriate for laparoscopic resection, particularly for surgeons building their initial independent case volume [Table ] . The factors in the scoring system include tumor location, tumor size, proximity to a major vessel, the extent of liver resection, incorporation of hand‐assisted or hybrid laparoscopy and small laparotomy, and liver function.…”

“…14 A proposed international consensus scoring system, the Iwate criteria, exists to help identify which tumors may be more appropriate for laparoscopic resection, particularly for surgeons building their initial independent case volume [ Table 2]. 15 The factors in the scoring system include tumor location, tumor size, proximity to a major vessel, the extent of liver resection, incorporation of hand-assisted or hybrid laparoscopy and small laparotomy, and liver function. The most challenging tumor locations are those away from the periphery of the liver, particularly those in segments I, IVa, VII, and VIII, and consideration should be…”

“…En el 2014 se llevó a cabo The Second International Consensus Conference on Laparoscopic Liver Resection (ICCLLR) en Morioka, Japón, liderado por el profesor Wakabayashi 67 . Después de una revisión sistemática de la literatura publicada y de encuestas globales, se concluyó que las resecciones hepáticas se pueden hacer con resultados a corto plazo iguales o mejores que los de la cirugía abierta y con resultados a largo plazo que, hasta ahora, son al menos iguales 68 .…”
