“…This is a descriptive, quantitative, cross-sectional study. Research data were collected during three different events taking place in Poland-the 2020 Karkonosze Winter Ultramarathon (held in March 2020 in Karpacz) [20], the 20th PKO Poznan Marathon (held in October 2019 in Poznan) [37], and 5K runs-the Parkrun Poznan and City Trail (held in March 2020 in Poznan) [38]. The studies involved 267 ultramarathoners, 493 marathon runners, and 165 Parkrun and City Trail participants.…”

Emerging single studies, however, have never been verified for differences at different distances within the same sociocultural environment [39,40].…”

“…This information shows to what extent mass recreational events on water promote an active lifestyle. A similar study was carried out on recreational runs for amateurs, e.g., Park Run -participants rated the level of encouragement at 4.99 on a 7-point Liker scale (Malchrowicz-Mośko et al, 2020b), while in the case of water events for amateurs, this was assessed at a slightly higher level. It is therefore deemed worthwhile for water sports events to become as popular as mass running events, as they promote active lifestyle to the same degree among amateurs.…”

“…For instance, the number of finishers in the New York City Marathon doubled from the 1980s to the 2010s ( Vitti et al, 2020 ). This implied that many runners competed in a marathon race for their first time or had a small sport experience, and consequently, the need to aid such runners has been documented ( Keogh et al, 2020 ; Malchrowicz-Mośko et al, 2020 ). An important question in recreational marathon runners has been the selection of a realistic goal, i.e., race pace that would allow a successful finish.…”
