The mass production and use of plastics over the past decades is now posing a threat to the environment due to increasing pollution. The industrial transition towards more sustainable plastic alternatives has already started, but the process will require years to become truly feasible from an industrial and economic standpoint. In the meantime, a significant contribution to limit plastic-related environmental impact could arise from consumers’ daily consumption choices. This study aims at investigating the determinants of consumers’ decision to avoid purchasing single-use plastic eating utensils, food products with multiple plastic packaging, and plastic water bottles while grocery shopping. The results of the Structural Equation Model reveal that environment- and health-related concerns associated with plastics are key drivers of plastic avoidance. Instead, subjective knowledge and the importance attached to the commitment of third parties for tackling the plastic issue only indirectly affect consumer behaviors with regard to plastic avoidance.

The internet has become a valuable tool for people to receive and transmit information, thus having a profound impact on their living habits and values. Based on face-to-face interview survey data collected in Central China, taking the biogas CCER scheme as an example, we discuss the effects of internet access on farmers' willingness to participate in the PCT scheme and desired carbon price. Our findings revealed that internet access improved the willingness of farmers to participate in the PCT scheme. We also found that it was likely to further increase the desired carbon price for those willing to participate. Further analysis demonstrated that male, young and middle-aged, and low-educated farmers were more likely to show greater motivation for participation in the PCT scheme due to internet access influence compared to other farmers. Additionally, we identified that the longer duration of internet access, the more likely farmers are to show a higher willingness to participate in the PCT scheme and hence the desired carbon price. In summary, the findings from this study imply that rural internet building exhibits a significant role in promoting the spread of PCT scheme and also helps to alleviate rural poverty.

The carbon market is the most important policy tool for achieving carbon peak and carbon neutralization. Enterprises are significant players in the carbon market, and this study aimed to identify if their willingness to participate is connected to the carbon market’s stability and, at the same time, whether it is also relevant for policy design and implementation. Using the technology acceptance model (TAM) and 226 questionnaire data from equipment manufacturing enterprises in Henan Province, China, this study contributes to the empirical analysis of the impact mechanism of information acquisition on the enterprises’ willingness to participate in the carbon market, with a particular focus on evaluating the three main transmission paths: the mediating role of perceived ease of use, the mediating role of perceived usefulness, and the chain mediating role of perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness; moreover, the results of the robustness tests also confirmed the soundness and validity of the research model. The study underlined that when appropriately designing the incentive mechanism for enterprises to participate in the carbon market, it may effectively enhance their willingness to participate in the carbon market by improving their perception of the ease of use and usefulness of the carbon market.
