Wettability of DPPC Monolayers Deposited from the Titanium Dioxide–Chitosan–Hyaluronic Acid Subphases on Glass

Abstract: The investigations were carried out to determine wettability of the 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DPPC) monolayers transferred from the liquid subphases containing chitosan (Ch), hyaluronic acid (HA), and/or titanium dioxide (TiO2) to a glass support by means of the Langmuir–Blodgett (LB) technique. For comparative purposes, the analysis of the plates surfaces emerged from the analogous subphases without the phospholipid film was also made. Characterization of the DPPC monolayers was based on th… Show more

“…Moreover, the observed changes resulting from the mixing in the subphase, i.e., Ch with TiO 2 or HA with TiO 2 , in relation to differences caused by individual components, confirm our previous reports [18,28,[44][45][46][47]. Clearly, in the case of the AA/HA/TiO 2 subphase, TiO 2 dominates in the interactions with Langmuir film components.…”

“…Fast and accurate quantification is essential for nanotechnology, which is one of the most dynamically developing fields of science and it is incredibly profitable from the manufacturers’ point of view [ 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 ]. The RIR method based on the fundamental intensity–concentration equation was commonly believed to be highly accurate, but the analysis results mostly depend on specimen and instrument factors [ 9 , 10 , 19 ].…”

“…However, 1.0% oil content enhanced the membrane hydrophilicity. Such behavior can be associated with the equilibrium relationship between the adhesive and cohesive forces of the liquid, suggesting that a change in this balance may have caused a change in the droplet diameter and, consequently, an increase in hydrophilicity as indicated by [ 15 ]. Meanwhile, the hydrophilic condition of the sample with 5% oil (ChCo-5%) approached that of the control membrane.…”

“…Chitosan is composed of units of poly-(beta-1-4) N-acetyl- d -glucosamine, extracted through partial deacetylation of chitin, one of the most abundant renewable biopolymers, which is obtained at low cost and on a large scale through marine sources [ 14 ]. The chemical modifications of chitosan are associated with a tendency for changes caused by the hydroxyl and amine functional groups present in its structure [ 15 ]. However, the efficacy of its properties depends strictly on molecular weight, degree of deacetylation, polydispersibility, and its structure [ 16 ].…”
