Wertigkeit des leberspezifischen superparamagnetischen Kontrastmittels AMI-25 für die Detektion und Differentialdiagnose lebereigener Tumoren versus Metastasen

Abstract: The value of the superparamagnetic contrast medium AMI-25 and its clinical acceptability was investigated in a phase-III-multicenter study. 18 patients with primary and secondary hepatic tumours were studied using T2- and T1-weighted spin-echo sequences, FATSAT sequences and FLASH-2-D-breathold sequences, both before and after intravenous application of AMI-25 (0.2 mmol GE/ml 15 mmol/kg KG in 100 ml 5% glucose infusion), using a 1.5 Tesla MRT (Magnetom 63 SP, Siemens). In 6 patients the MRT findings could be c… Show more

“…On the other hand, marked differences in signal intensities were found in the case of hepatocellular carcinoma, the contrast between tumour and healthy tissue decreasing with increasing cell differentiation within the tumour. This can be explained by the fact that highly differentiated hepatocellular carcinomas are still capable of varying degrees of iron particle uptake, whereas poorly differentiated hepatocellular carcinomas, like metastases, demonstrate no such uptake (27,32).…”

“…SPIO contrast medium has been reported to play a role in the MR evaluation of focal nodular hyperplasia and adenoma versus malignant lesions (32). Several studies emphasise that postcontrast T 1 -weighted sequences are helpful in distinguishing malignant and benign lesions.…”

“…[7][8][9][10] It has been well documented that systemically administered iron oxide nanoparticles are rapidly engulfed by the reticuloendothelial system, with the spleen being one of the major organs for particle distribution. 7,11,12 Accordingly, the impact of iron oxide nanoparticles on the functionality of immune cells has become a focus of research.…”
