Samarang field started its first oil in year 1975 and has since, producing for last 39 years as we speak. The asset has embarked on a Field Redevelopment Project in 2010. The Field Redevelopment Project consists of infill drilling, production enhancement as well as an Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) scheme. Integrated Operations (IO) is executed as part of Redevelopment Plan and was incepted in year 2011 with front end design and subsequently a multi-phases implementation that aligns to overall Field Redevelopment Plan. The main business drivers of Integrated Operations (IO) is to enable Samarang asset a real time production, reservoir and process surveillance & optimization in order to gain reservoir and production understanding for effective asset management. As a brown field, over 90% of Samarang wells are being gas lifted. As such, gas lift surveillance and optimization workflow is identified as one of the key workflows in Samarang Integrated Operations (IO) implementation to ramp up production of the Samarang field. The status quo operating environment in Samarang with majority of the platforms were installed with pneumatic instrumentation, control and shutdown systems, with no provision for remote monitoring and control has posed challenges in performing surveillance and hence, hinder the efforts to perform production optimization. Furthermore, the flow from multiple wells are commingling at production headers in each of the platforms that resulted in sporadic well test measurement, delay in well models updates and in turn, deferring opportunity for production optimization and enhancement. The gas lift surveillance and optimization workflows within Samarang Integrated Operations (IO) include modification of control valves, installation of wellhead transmitters for pressure, temperature and flow measurements. The instrumentation provides real time data input to analytical models to determine the optimum set points for gas injection. The general merits of the workflow are as follows: Continuously monitoring of Gas Utilization Factor (GUF) in real-time,Keeping well and network models up-to-date.Optimize the production rate by re-distributing the lift gas within the active production wells by honoring production constraints.Continuously to optimize gas utilization, reduce production deferments and improve production. This paper describes the implementation of gas lift surveillance and optimization workflow, the architecture and benefits within the Samarang Integrated Operations (IO).

With the production declining trends and dwindling reserves for a 35-year-old Samarang offshore field, Samarang Redevelopment Project was kicked-off with a vision to implement Integrated Operations (IO) as Asset Management Decision Support tool. To realize the expected reserves and optimize the production, an ЉIntegrated Asset ModelЉ (IAM) concept is introduced with a state of the art modeling techniques to treat the asset as a whole unit rather than isolated silos as was being done traditionally. Understanding the complex interactions and synergies between reservoirs, production networks and process facilities was the key in the decision making process, where strategies implemented and decisions taken on the production networks would greatly impact the reservoirs' performance and vice versa. This was achieved by creating an Integrated Asset Model that included the eight reservoir simulation models, together with a common production network model of around 80 strings and a complex process facilities model. This new business process is supported by an underlying system that keeps model up-to-date with the current reservoir and production changes. This innovative approach for long term production planning is used to better manage and plan the continuous production flow stream from reservoir to field export point. The main objectives for the Long Term Production Planning approach are:• Obtain more accurate and reliable forecasts by having the reservoir, surface network and process models integrated. • Recognize the complex interactions between reservoir and production networks and understand facilities constraints and potential bottlenecks. • Compare different EOR, redevelopment strategies scenarios thereby obtaining the optimal scenario. • Increase collaboration and reduce communication time between different domains to enhance the decision making process from an integrated asset management perspective.This approach has been implemented recently for the Samarang long term asset management strategy and has revealed very remarkable results which would help the asset team for improvising the short and long term strategies. The paper also divulge how the underlying foundation platform has been set-up to run such integrated studies followed by capabilities to run the various optimization scenarios to assist the development strategies especially after introduction on enhanced oil recovery (EOR). This innovative approach delivers value with the enhanced asset management by focusing on decisions to improve production and operations performance. The Maari oil field, the first OMV operated offshore oil field development, has showcased OMV's impressive technical skills. Following the completion of a field re-development drilling campaign in August 2015, the well configuration currently consists of 10 producers and 1 water injector (with the option to convert a producer into a water injector in the future). Electric Submersible Pumps (ESPs) are installed on all 10 producing wells to provide lift of reservoir fluids to surface. A SCADA system and associated Production Historian Database (PHD) was included in order to capture the high frequency data for well & reservoir surveillance and daily production optimisation of the field. However, there were many challenges in utilising this live data stream from the offshore facility. In particular, it was vital to continuously and effectively monitor and optimise ESP performance in order to improve run life, reduce downtime and ultimately increase production. An integrated decision support system was therefore required for real-time data collection, production monitoring, ESP health check and KPI analysis for proactive decision making and limiting the number of manual processes involved. This paper describes how these challenges were overcome by creating an integrated workflow and aligning the existing system architecture in order to meet the business needs. The system is based on full workflow automation, and has been deployed for data acquisition, validation and analysis by optimising the components of integrated asset management. The system includes an integrated framework connected to various live data sources with different time increments, allowing data aggregation to a reliable intra-day hub. Automated job scheduling has also been built in with a decision support dashboard setup for production analysis and ESP performance monitoring. Based on historical trends, an optimum operating envelope was defined and automatic rules were configured for anomaly detection. The system has provided standardized data access throughout the asset team, streamlining their entire process and resulting in improved efficiency, which has optimised the engineers time for core operational activities. With a secure and automated workflow, and the ability for multiple users to work simultaneously, the system has minimised their downtime, thus improving overall productivity. Utilizing the live data feed for updating of simulation models has allowed quicker comparisons of numerical predictions with analytical forecasts, hence helping to streamline the overall reservoir management of the field. The system has not only assisted the team in meeting their production reporting deadlines, but has also alleviated bottlenecks in their decision-making processes helping to boost overall asset productivity.
