The Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is an important application area of the Cyber-Physical System (CPS). To further promote effective communication between vehicles, vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) have been widely used in the ITS. However, the communication efficiency in VANETs is not only affected by the external environment but also more vulnerable to malicious attacks. In order to address the above-mentioned issues, we propose a novel trust-based multicast routing protocol (TMR) to defend against multiple attacks and improve the routing efficiency. In the proposed trust model, direct trust is calculated based on Bayesian theory and indirect trust is computed according to evaluation credibility and activity. The fuzzy logic theory is used to fuzzify the direct and indirect trust values, and then the total trust value of the node is obtained by defuzzification. With the help of the obtained trust values, malicious vehicle nodes are eliminated in the processes of route establishment and route maintenance, and finally, the network establishes trusted and efficient routes for data delivery. Comprehensive simulation experiments show that our new protocol can effectively improve the transmission rate of data packets at the expense of a slight increase in end-to-end delay and control overhead.

The ever increasing amount of connected mobile devices and users in the Internet of vehicles and the fact bicycles, electric scooters and users' smartphones are also connected poses a real challenge in terms of ensuring quality of service. The constantly changing topology due to the high‐mobility of devices and users greatly impacts its stability and the connectivity of devices. Furthermore, to ensure safety of people in the case of autonomous vehicles it is of paramount importance to ensure excellent reliability. This is why we have developed a solution that is based on machine learning to classify devices according to their mobility profile and that uses a scoring system to select the best candidates to act as mobile relays amongst devices with a suitable mobility profile. The scoring system allows to find critical locations in terms of user density. This solution does not require a dedicated infrastructure such as road side units. Simulations results will show the proposed solution increases the packet delivery ratio by up to 6%, reduces the energy consumption by up to 30% and increases the efficiency of bandwidth usage without sacrificing the end delay of users and devices compared with the state‐of‐the‐art.

Using Overhearing and Rateless Coding in Disseminating Various Messages in Vehicular AdHoc Networks

Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) are emerging technologies with the primary purpose of establishing Vehicular communications. Available protocols for data dissemination in VANETs are faced with issues like discontinuous connections, uncertainty about receiving messages, collisions, and latency. In this paper, a new method is presented for the dissemination of advertising and infotainment messages. The proposed method has used store carry and forward (SCF), rateless coding, and a new handshake mechanism to solve discontinuous connections, uncertainty about receiving messages, and collision problems, respectively. In this paper, changing the Road Side Unit (RSU) message over time and its impact on the network is proposed as a new step in evaluating data dissemination methods. Our results showed that if changing the RSU message happened very rapidly, the network performance will almost be eliminated; to address this problem and due to the advertising nature of messages, the use of overhearing has been suggested. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that message overhearing has been used in VANET. Extensive and accurate simulations results show that the proposed method for 2, 3, 5, and 10 messages: (i) reduces the overhead of handshake on average 70% 63%, 48%, and 3%, (ii) increases the number of delivered packets on average 5%, 22%, 75%, and 84%, and (iii) increases the range of data dissemination on average 47%, 187%, 661%, and 2962%, respectively. With the mentioned improvements, the proposed method can also significantly reduce the latency of disseminating messages between vehicles.
