The seed metering process of a fluted force-feed seeder was simulated using the Discrete Element Method and its parameters optimized using the Box–Behnken Design of Experiments and the Response Surface Method. The rotational speed of the feed roller, the lead (helix) angle of the flutes, and the number of flutes were the independent variables, while the response value was the seeding uniformity index. Two regression models were investigated, and the following conclusions drawn. For the flute lead angle between 0 and 10 degrees, and the number of flutes between 10 and 14, it was found that the number of flutes and the lead angle influenced the seeding performance the most, with the order of importance being the (i) number of flutes, (ii) lead angle and (iii) roller speed. For the flute lead angle between 5 and 15 degrees, and the number of flutes between 12 and 16, it was found that the roller speed and the number of flutes influenced the seeding performance the most, with the order of importance being the (i) roller speed, (ii) number of flutes and (iii) flute lead angle. The two regression models were then minimized for the seeding uniformity index and the corresponding optima verified experimentally on a conveyor belt test stand fitted with an image recognition system.

A Rotary Blade Design for Paddy Fields With Long Rice Straw Based on Edem

The paddy field machine uses excessive power during paddy field preparation because of the high distribution density of rice straw. In this study, a rotary blade is created to address this problem. The structural parameters of the rotary blade were designed and the dynamic analysis of the rotary blade's soil-cutting process was completed to establish a model of the rotary blade's power consumption. Through the model, the primary factors influencing the rotary blade's power consumption were identified. A composite soil bin model of rice straw-muddy layer-bottom soil was established in EDEM software, with the bending angle of the front blade, the working width of a single blade, and the thickness of the blade as the test factors. The straw burying rate, power consumption, and surface flatness after rotary tillage were used as evaluation indicators to conduct multi-factor simulation tests on the composite soil bin model. The optimized analysis of the test data showed that the optimal geometric parameters for the rotary blade were 49 mm working width, 108° front blade bending angle, and 4 mm blade thickness. A field verification test was carried out on the optimized rotary blade, and the test results showed that the surface flatness after rotary tillage was 3.25 cm, the qualified rate of rotary tillage depth was 93.3%, and the degree of mud mixing was 3.41 kg/dm 3 , which was suitable for the land preparation requirements of paddy fields.

In order to increase the structural performance of rotary tillage knife, a badger claw toe was selected as the bionic prototype of the rotary tillage knife, and the bionic optimization design of the rotary tillage knife was carried out. The structural similarity between the badger’s claw toe and the rotary tiller is 0.7073 by the fuzzy algorithm, and the shape goodness of fit between the final mole’s claw toe and the digging shovel is 0.9556 by MATLAB. Using 3D modeling software NX10.0, we established a three-dimensional model of the rotary tillage knife. Furthermore, we use Workbench to carry out static analysis on the three rotary tillage knives and obtain their stress and deformation. Similarly, we also obtain their vibration frequency through modal analysis, summarize, and compare the experimental data. The outcomes indicate that compared with the ordinary rotary tillage knife, the strain and stress of the bionic rotary tillage knife with sawtooth tangent blade arrangement are reduced by 5.20% and 2.84%, respectively. Moreover, the specific strength and specific stiffness are increased by 3.99% and 6.49%, respectively. The structural efficiency is improved by 11.36%. However, the stress of the bionic rotary tiller with full serration is reduced by 7.38%. We also observed that the specific strength and specific stiffness were improved by 11.97% and 2.37%, correspondingly. Overall, structural efficiency has increased by 14.64%. The rotary tiller has also attained noble optimization outcomes in terms of stability, strength, and stiffness.
