Web Plot Digitizer Software: Can It Be Used to Measure Neck Posture in Clinical Practice?

Abstract: Objective : The aim of this study was to examine the use of WPD software to evaluate FHP using digital photogrammetry method.Method: A total of 15 adults with no history of neck pain for the past 6 months were recruited for the study. Using digital photogrammetry and sagittal head tilt, craniocervical and shoulder angles (SAs) were measured using a WPD, which is an open resource of web or Windows-based software.Result: Fifteen participants aged 17-40 years (mean 24.7±6.3 years) were examined. Sagittal head til… Show more

“…45 In our study, the researcher educated the participants’ caregivers on the anatomical reference point using high-resolution images shared via the “screen sharing” function in the telePTsys software, providing real-time guidance while placing the coloured adhesive markers on the anatomical reference points, and employed the photogrammetry method for posture assessment. 46 With these measures, our current study shows high concurrent validity in TR-based neck posture assessment, even with the low-resolution (320 × 240) images.…”

“…As raw data is rarely provided in published works, we developed a protocol for extracting data accurately and precisely. WebPlotDigitizer is a freely available graphical analysis program that allowed for quick and reliable extraction of data from plots and figures (Drevon et al, 2017; Mani et al, 2018; Rohatgi, 2017). For variables where data were not graphically represented, data points were generated in MATLAB using the mean and standard deviation reported in the original source paper (Karantanis et al, 2017a, 2017b, 2017c; Granatosky, Schmitt, et al, 2019).…”

“…We independently extracted the data from Figures 1 and 2 (pgs. 351-352; 15 participants total) of the source study using WebPlotDigitizer (Mani, Sharma, & Singh, 2018). WebPlot-Digitizer has been shown to result in high levels of reliability and validity for extracting single case design data (Drevon, Fursa, & Malcolm, 2017).…”
