Given the ever-growing need for robotics learning, an experimental teaching model was developed in combination with virtual reality, remote control and an on-site laboratory to support robotic kinematics teaching. Based on the Browser/Server mode, a kinematics simulation platform of a 6-DOF articulated robot and a 4-DOF SCARA robot was established. Furthermore, a Client/Server mode SCARA robot’s remote-control system was developed along with a simulation with the same functionality and interface. Experiments with virtual reality simulation can eliminate the safety concerns associated with real-world robot operations. Test resources can be web-shared for wider audiences. Remote-controlled experiments could operate the robot off-site and achieve the same results as on-site operations. Virtual reality and remote-controlled experiments could also alleviate the shortages of lab time, space, equipment, staff and teaching time. Students could choose one of the three modes to examine the effectiveness of their study, or they could first use simulations and later operate robots on-site or remotely and obtain real-world experimental results. The various testing combinations available to learners would improve the flexibility, effectiveness and safety of experiments and would meet various learners’ needs.

Remote laboratories are being applied in various educational settings, including in teaching computer programming. However, most of these laboratories do not support the phase of problem analysis. This work presents an educational environment for programming teaching that allows analyzing problems, planning, coding and testing solutions. It uses a virtual learning environment, a remote robotics lab, an online compiling tool, and an online text editor. In the environment, the teacher can define practical programming activities and the student can design a plan, build algorithm, implement it in a programming language and test the solution on a remote mobile robot.Resumo. Os laboratórios remotos estão sendo aplicados em diversos cenários educacionais, entre eles, no ensino de programação de computadores. Entretanto, a maioria desses laboratórios não dá suporte a fase de análise de problemas. Este trabalho apresenta um ambiente educacional voltado ao ensino de programação que permite analisar problemas, planejar, codificar e testar soluções. Ele utiliza um ambiente virtual de aprendizagem, um laboratório remoto de robótica, uma ferramenta de compilação online e um editor de texto online. No ambiente, o professor pode definir atividades práticas de programação e o aluno pode projetar um plano, construir algoritmo, implementá-lo em uma linguagem de programação e testar a solução em um robô móvel remoto.

Deployment of a Software to Simulate Control Systems in the State-Space

In this work, we present a simulation software that permits designing and testing several types of controllers based on both classical and modern control theory. It has been created using Easy JavaScript Simulations, since this software permits implementing interactive simulations of physical systems in a quick and intuitive way. This laboratory contains a SISO (Single-Input and Single-Output) and a MIMO (Multiple-Input and Multiple-Output) plant, which are hydraulic and nonlinear, thus the linear model (linearized equations) and the original model (nonlinerized equations) have been implemented. The user can choose any of these physical systems and they have the options to control them using either continuous-time or discrete-time controllers. All parameters of the plant are fully configurable by the user. After that, the controller can be designed and tested. This simulation software offers several configurations: (a) PID (Proportional, Integral and Derivative controller); (b) state feedback; (c) observer and state feedback; and (d) integral controller, observer and state feedback control. The evolution of the controlled system is visualized using an animation of the virtual plant and a graphical representation of the evolution of the most important variables. In this paper, the steps for the implementation of this simulation software are detailed.
