“…Information provision is one of the three basic functions of e-banking as offered by banking institutions (others being transactional and relationship building) (Diniz, 1998; Arora and Sandhu, 2014). The term “Information” designates not only the knowledge that provides the content of communication, but the aspect of newness or variability that knowledge has in some context (Loftus and Loftus, 1976).…”
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to determine factors influencing customers’ usage of electronic banking (e-banking) services.
Design/methodology/approach
A survey was conducted to collect information from bank customers regarding their perceptions about e-banking services and their demographics. Multiple regression analysis is used to test the hypothesised relationships.
Findings
E-banking usage is found to be high for female, more educated, younger, and middle income customers. Among the 11 perceptual variables studied, only six variables, namely: information, performance, self-interest, service quality, satisfaction, and experience are found to be significantly and positively associated with e-banking usage.
Practical implications
This study identifies factors which may be focussed on by bankers during the formulation of their operations and marketing strategies to provide the best e-banking experience to their customers, enabling bankers to augment bank profitability through the strategic use of technologies.
Originality/value
Past studies have seldom examined the combined influence of demographics and other factors on e-banking services usage in the context of developing countries. Most of the earlier studies have considered single service or examined the adoption as only a binary variable.

“…In this situation, banks, both public and private, can overcome these barriers (Turguttopbas, 2013). Banks can offer information and knowledge as well as financial support to exporting companies (Diniz, 1998), especially micro-companies that have more difficulties in accessing export credit (Motta, 2020).…”
PurposeBanks play a crucial role in the sustainable development of exports as they finance much of the trade. Additionally, in Brazil's case, banks provide exporting companies with advisory and training services, which facilitate the internationalization process. This work aims to analyze the role of public and private banks in the export process of companies in Brazil.Design/methodology/approachInterviews are conducted with a sample of 318 Brazilian exporting companies. Two research questions are posed: What type of export services do companies use from public and private banks in Brazil? Is exporting companies' access to credit, as a type of banking service, related to their size or export experience? A descriptive study of the functions of public and private banks in helping Brazilian exports is presented. Hypotheses are proposed regarding companies' access to credit and its relationship with their size and export experience.FindingsIt is found that public and private banks in Brazil provide exporting companies with banking services, other services related to technical aspects, and export consulting. There are significant differences in access to credit in both public and private banks, depending on the exporting company's size.Originality/valueThis work contributes to the internationalization literature on the role of banks in supporting exports in an emerging country like Brazil.
Purpose -This exploratory study is an attempt to present the present status of Internet banking in India and the extent of Internet banking services offered by Internet banks. In addition, it seeks to examine the factors affecting the extent of Internet banking services. Design/methodology/approach -The data for this study are based on a survey of bank websites explored during July 2008. The sample consists of 82 banks operating in India at 31 March 2007. Multiple regression technique is employed to explore the determinants of the extent of Internet banking services. Findings -The results show that the private and foreign Internet banks have performed well in offering a wider range and more advanced services of Internet banking in comparison with public sector banks. Among the determinants affecting the extent of Internet banking services, size of the bank, experience of the bank in offering Internet banking, financing pattern and ownership of the bank are found to be significant.Research limitations/implications -The primary limitation of the study is the scope and size of its sample as well as other variables (e.g. market, environmental, regulatory etc.) which may have an effect on the decision of the banks to offer a wide range of Internet banking services. Originality/value -The purpose of the study is to help fill significant gaps in knowledge about the Internet banking landscape in India. The findings are expected to be of great use to the government, regulators, commercial banks, other financial institutions, e.g. co-operative banks planning to offer Internet banking, bank customers and researchers. The bankers as well as society at large will come to know where the banks lag in terms of adoption of Internet banking and in providing different products and services. An understanding of the factors affecting the extent of Internet banking services is essential both for economists studying the determinants of growth and for the creators and producers of such technologies. Moreover, this paper contributes to the empirical literature on diffusion of financial innovations, particularly Internet banking, in a developing country, i.e. India.
