Wear behavior of pits textured grey cast iron rings with Zr/ZrN coatings under dry sliding

Abstract: This study presents the influence of Zr/ZrN coatings on the tribological performance of pits textured grey cast iron parts under dry sliding. A laser marking system and a physical vapor deposition equipment were applied to manufacture pits textured grey cast iron rings combined with Zr/ZrN coatings. A pin-on-disc wear test rig was used to reveal the wear behavior of samples under dry wear condition, at a rotating speed of 200 r/min, with a normal load of 70 N. The wear losses and the worn surfaces of … Show more

“…This is because the raceways of textured shaft washers are divided into different regions by groove units, which act as "shallow U-shaped thin-wall embedded reinforcements" [see Figure 5(e)], due to the "local quenching effect" during laser marking process (Long et al, 2020). When the WOG is fixed and small, the integrity of raceways is gradually weakened with the increase of DPOG, but the strengthening effect of U-shaped thin-wall embedment is gradually enhanced according to classical theoretical mechanics.…”

“…roughness and hardness) can be customized according to individual requirements, partially or entirely. To this end, physical vapor deposition (Akbarzadeh and Khonsari, 2018), chemical vapor deposition (Long et al, 2020), laser remelting (Zhang et al, 2015), surface texture (ST)/laser surface texture (LST) (Olofinjana et al, 2015;Sedlacek et al, 2017;Bonse et al, 2018;Kümmel et al, 2019;Rodrigues and Bittencourt, 2020), laser cladding (Long et al, 2008), thermal spraying (Bobzin et al, 2020) were introduced. The earliest experimental evidences of ST/LST should go back to Hamilton et al (1966) and Anno et al (1968) in the 1960sIn the past 60 years, through preparing periodically distributed macro-/ micro units, e.g.…”

“…Therefore, this work focused on the influence of different IDAs on the wear properties of pits textured GCI rings when DAAP was a constant, 10 . Based on previous works, [22][23][24] the other parameters are set and listed as the following: The DAOP is 0.8 mm, the DPOP is 1.0 mm and the RDAP is 2.0 mm. Furthermore, the NPG is 9, and there are four pits of each group.…”

“…Therefore, based on previous researches on the anti-wear performance of LDPRD (linear distributed pits in radial direction) textured GCI rings, 2224 a CDPRD pattern was introduced in this work. The thermal behavior of pits textured GCI rings with different key parameters was analyzed using ANSYS/LS-DYNA module and APDL programming.…”

“…The friction and wear properties of textured REBs under dry wear can best reflect the wear resistance and friction-reduction ability of the texture itself, which can also provide a reference for the research of tribological performance in other lubrication regimes. Therefore, based on previous works, 5,30–32 a laser marking system (PL100-30W, China) was used to process grooves textured 81107TN bearings with different pattern parameters. A MMX-1A wear test rig was used to obtain their COFs under dry wear.…”
