Wear and corrosion properties of electroless nickel composite coatings with PTFE and/or MoS2 particles

Abstract: This study focuses on the effect of co-deposition of PTFE and/or MoS 2 particles on the morphology, wear, and corrosion properties of electroless nickel coating. The composite coating of EN-PTFE-MoS 2 was heat treated at different temperatures for hardness investigations. The surface morphology of coatings was characterized by scanning electron microscopy. Pin-on-disk and potentiodynamic polarization tests were used to study the tribological and corrosion properties of the coatings, respectively. Results of ha… Show more

“…However, PTFE also has disadvantages of having relatively low mechanical strength and poor wear resistance [16]. To overcome these weaknesses, PTFE may be mixed with glass fibers, graphite, metal powders, or blended with other thermoplastic materials to enhance its mechanical properties [17][18][19][20][21][22][23].…”

“…Jappes et al 12 have used an X-ray di®raction (XRD) method instead of weight loss method for measurement of wear resistance. The coatings with heat treatment at 350 C show higher wear resistance as compared to coatings heat treated at 500 C. Mohammadi and Ghorbani 13 have investigated the e®ect of PTFE and MoS 2 particles on wear resistance of composite coating. The experimental result shows better wear resistance of EN-PTFE-MoS 2 composite coatings as compared to EN-PTFE and EN-MoS 2 composite coatings.…”
