Weak electric fields detectability in a noisy neural network

Abstract: We investigate the detectability of weak electric field in a noisy neural network based on Izhikevich neuron model systematically. The neural network is composed of excitatory and inhibitory neurons with similar ratio as that in the mammalian neocortex, and the axonal conduction delays between neurons are also considered. It is found that the noise intensity can modulate the detectability of weak electric field. Stochastic resonance (SR) phenomenon induced by white noise is observed when the weak electric fiel… Show more

“…83,[85][86][87] Biological systems are capable of amplifying signals from weak electromagnetic fields. 88 The correct medicine and living system recipient require communication of an individually relevant "message" 25 or information pattern at their interface. Sensory detection, 53,56,65 endogenous non-linear cell-to-cell communication, 77,87,[89][90][91][92][93][94][95] and non-linear amplification processes 18,54 in the body engage the inter-connected cells and sub-systems that comprise the body.…”

“…Some studies that have applied the Izhikevich neural model are represented in the following. Zhao et al investigated the probability of detecting a weak electric field in neural networks with the presence of noise (Zhao et al, 2017). Lv et al have implemented the simultaneous simulations of brain networks based on the Izhikevich spiking model (Lv et al, 2014).…”

“…Spike synchronization has also been shown in coupled neural network models, such as the small-world network reported by Kim and Lim (2017) and in their subsequent free-scale network model (Kim and Lim 2018). In a noisy neural network model based on Izhikevich neuron models, SR was induced by a white Gaussian current (Zhao et al 2017) and was supported by neural coupling following synchronization of neural spikes. Under these conditions, decoupling eliminated synchronization.…”
