IntroductionThis paper aims to identify and compare changes in trends and research interests in soccer articles from before and during the COVID-19 pandemic.MethodsWe compared research interests and trends in soccer-related journal articles published before COVID-19 (2018–2020) and during the COVID-19 pandemic (2021–2022) using Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) topic modeling.ResultsIn both periods, we categorized the social sciences into psychology, sociology, business, and technology, with some interdisciplinary research topics identified, and we identified changes during the COVID-19 pandemic period, including a new approach to home advantage. Furthermore, Sports science and sports medicine had a vast array of subject areas and topics, but some similar themes emerged in both periods and found changes before and during COVID-19. These changes can be broadly categorized into (a) Social Sciences and Technology; (b) Performance training approaches; (c) injury part of body. With training topics being more prominent than match performance during the pandemic; and changes within injuries, with the lower limbs becoming more prominent than the head during the pandemic.ConclusionNow that the pandemic has ended, soccer environments and routines have returned to pre-pandemic levels, but the environment that have changed during the pandemic provide an opportunity for researchers and practitioners in the field of soccer to detect post-pandemic changes and identify trends and future directions for research.

This study explores the multifaceted motivations behind parental decisions to enroll their children in organized sports, with a focus on how these decisions intersect with gender norms and values. Through qualitative interviews with mothers and fathers in Israel, this research uncovers a complex interplay between societal expectations, personal values, and the gender identities of both parents and children. A thematic analysis of the interviews revealed that despite a societal shift towards more gender-neutral perspectives, traditional gender roles persist, particularly in the attitudes of fathers towards the sports participation of their sons. This research identifies a paradox where girls are encouraged to participate in a broader range of sports, including those traditionally viewed as masculine, while boys face more restrictions, particularly against engaging in sports perceived as feminine. Mothers generally exhibit more flexibility in challenging gender norms, suggesting the potential for gradual change in future generations. This study’s findings contribute to the understanding of how parental guidance shapes children’s sports involvement and the perpetuation or challenging of gender norms within this context. Future research could benefit from a broader, more diverse sample and a mixed-methods approach to enhance generalizability and reduce potential biases.

Анотація. Нині як у наукових дослідженнях, так і в міжнародній політиці все більше уваги приділяється ролі спорту в просуванні соціальної інклюзії. Науковці зазнаючають, що ряд факторів можуть обумовлювати саму участь людей у спортивній діяльності. Покладаючи в основу ідею інклюзії як процесу збільшення ступеня участі всіх громадян у соціумі, незалежно від своїх особливостей чи відмінностей, це дослідження пропонує комплексний критичний огляд наукової літератури та покликане забезпечити розуміння організаційного підґрунтя імплементації інклюзивності у спорті на якісно новому рівні. Мета. Наративний огляд та систематизація організаційних засад імплементації інклюзивності у спорті на основі аналізу детермінант залучення до спортивної діяльності та ключових індикаторів побудови інклюзивної спортивної культури. Методи. Аналіз та систематизація джерел наукової літератури, індукція, дедукція, порівняння та зіставлення, методи системного та логічного аналізу, синтез та узагальнення. Результати. Досліджено економічні, фізичні, соціальні та психологічні детермінанти, які на макро-, мезо- та мікрорівнях можуть впливати на участь у спортивній діяльності представників різних груп населення. Інклюзивний підхід у спортивній діяльності здатний забезпечити переваги для усіх учасників, створити спортивне середовище, де кожна особа відчуває себе бажаною та залученою. Порівняння та зіставлення результатів дослідження виявило, що це вимагає розуміння та врахування різноманітності, сприяння справедливості та забезпечення включеності як ключових аспектів інклюзивної спортивної політики. Ключові слова: інклюзія, спорт, детермінанти залучення до спортивної діяльності, індикатори побудови інклюзивної спортивної культури.
