Wavelet Based Reference Current Calculation Method for Active Compensation Systems

Abstract: Today, active compensation systems have become more preferable compared with passive compensation systems. Performance of an active compensation system depends on current control method of the compensator as well as how this current is generated. In this study, a Discrete Wavelet Packets Transform (DWPT) based method was proposed for calculating reference current of active compensation systems and the results were compared with the currents produced from classical p-q theory. According to the obtained results,… Show more

“…DWPT is a signal analysis method that was developed as an alternative to discrete Fourier transform and is used in many fields of study today [16][17][18]. DWPT is the separation of the sampled signal into less sampled components like the branches of a tree.…”

“…For this purpose, the numbers of data of all voltages are converted to 6400 samples [13]. db20 was used as the main wavelet, and the number of coefficients and frequency ranges of the obtained wavelet components are given in Table 1 [7,9,18]. As seen in Table 1, the frequency range of Figures 8-11 represent the fundamental component, while the residuals represent the sum of the voltages that cause harmonic distortion.…”

“…Four-level WPT is applied to obtain the bandwidth that is closest to the fundamental frequency of 50 Hz. db20, which belongs to the Daubechies wavelet family, is preferred as the mother wavelet [22,23]. The frequency bandwidths of 16 components obtained for each phase are given in Table 1.…”
