Wave Propagation in Stringy Black Hole

Abstract: We further study the nonperturbative formulation of two-dimensional black holes. We find a nonlinear differential equation satisfied by the tachyon in the black hole background. We show that singularities in the tachyon field configurations are always associated with divergent semiclassical expansions and are absent in the exact theory. We also discuss how the Euclidian black hole emerges from an analytically continued fermion theory that corresponds to the right side up harmonic oscillator potential.⋆ adhar@t… Show more

“…For black holes with nonzero area, both in the supersymmetric as well as nearly supersymmetric cases, there is already an impressive agreement between the degeneracy of the string states and the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy [18,19,20]. Furthermore, the emission and absorption properties of these black holes also match those of the corresponding string states [21,22,23,24,25].…”

“…The leading term for minimally coupled scalars in 5 dimensions was computed in [10], for the string state and for the classical black hole, and the above mentioned agreement was found. (It had been shown in [2], [11] that the two rates should agree up to a constant of proportionality.) The agreement at leading order for charged scalars in 4 and 5 dimensions was demonstrated in [12].…”

“…We have also dropped a term linear in velocity in the action since we will not be considering this term when we compare with the matrix theory result. The functions K 1 , K 2 and K 3 are given by 5) where the parameter f measures the ratio of the charges…”

“…Also, recently there has been a lot of activity in identifying Schwarzschild black holes in the matrix theory [28,29,30,31,32,33]. 5 See, however, reference [36] in which a matrix theory calculation in the related problem of scattering of probe D6-branes carrying large D0-brane charge off a target D0-brane shows agreement with supergravity calculation at 1-loop.…”
