Wave digital filter modeling of circuits with operational amplifiers

Abstract: We extend the Wave Digital Filter (WDF) approach to simulate reference circuits that involve operational amplifiers (op-amps). We handle both nullor-based ideal op-amp models and controlled-source-based linear op-amp macromodels in circuits with arbitrary topologies using recent derivations for complicated scattering matrices. The presented methods greatly increase the class of appropriate circuits for virtual analog modeling, and readily extend to circuits with any number of op-amps. Although op-amps are esse… Show more

“…It is only in the past few years, however, that Virtual Analog modeling has truly focused on the WD domain. Numerous articles, in fact, have recently appeared in the literature, proposing WD realizations of circuits containing linear and nonlinear elements such as operational amplifiers [6], [17], [18], nonlinear transformers [19], diodes [6], [20]- [23], vacuum tubes [24], [25] and transistors [26]- [30], which were not initially addressed in the original literature on WD Filters [1]. Dynamic circuits with up to one nonlinear element can be implemented using explicit (i.e.…”

“…As an example, the stamps corresponding to port A are highlighted in light gray and the stamps corresponding to the nullor are highlighted in dark gray. Although we have chosen to model the op-amp with a nullor, consider modeling it with a VCVS as a thought experiment [33]. The procedure would be identical although the VCVS stamp from Tab.…”

“…The circuit comprises 5 capacitors (C z and C a 路 路 路 C e ), 7 resistors (R 0 , R a , and R c 路 路 路 R h ), a potentiometer (R b ) controlling the boost amount, an op-amp, and a battery (dc ideal voltage source V b ). The op-amp is configured in negative feedback and modeled as ideal using a nullor [33]. 1) WDF Model: A graph representing the circuit is shown in Fig.…”
