Watershed‐scale phosphorus balances to establish reasonable water quality expectations

Abstract: Nutrient balances to optimize phosphorus use efficiency without jeopardizing system productivity can be applied at multiple spatial scales to track nutrient flows on the farm or across a watershed. When combined with soil testing or water quality data, nutrient balances can be a valuable tool for determining which 4R phosphorus management practices will be effective for meeting production or nutrient loss reduction goals.
