The 2-propargyl-5-o-hydroxyphenyltetrazole (PHPT) has been tested as corrosion inhibitor for low carbon steel in simulated cooling water. The polarization curves showed that PHPT acts as mixed-type inhibitor. Its inhibition efficiency was found to enhance with increase of the inhibitor concentration and immersion time due to the formation of the inhibitor film on the metal surface as indicated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements. To complete the formulation further, a non oxidizing biocide was added. Its presence with PHPT does not affect its inhibitory performance and it can be served as a basic component of the formulation for cooling water system.

Electroless Ni-P composite coatings have gained a good deal of popularity and acceptance in recent years as they provide considerable improvement of desirable qualities such as hardness, wear, abrasion resistance, etc. The disagreement among researchers on the corrosion behaviour of these coatings warrants a thorough investigation. Among the various techniques available for the determination of corrosion resistance, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is considered to be superior as it provides not only an assessment of the corrosion resistance of dierent deposits but also enables the mechanistic pathway by which the deposits become corroded to be determined. The present investigation focuses on the evaluation of the corrosion resistance of electroless Ni-P and Ni-P-Si 3 N 4 , Ni-P-CeO 2 and Ni-P-TiO 2 composite coatings produced using an acidic hypophosphite-reduced electroless nickel bath, using EIS. The study makes evident that the same fundamental reaction is occurring on all the coatings of the present study but over a dierent eective area in each case. The charge transfer resistance of electroless Ni-P and Ni-P composite deposits are in the range 32,253±90,700 W cm 2 , whereas the capacitances of these coatings are in the range 11±17 lF/cm 2 . The improved corrosion resistance obtained for electroless Ni-P and Ni-P composite coatings is due to the enrichment of phosphorus on the electrode surface, which enables the preferential hydrolysis of phosphorus over that of nickel. The better corrosion resistance obtained for electroless Ni-P composite coatings can be ascribed to the decrease in the eective metallic area prone to corrosion. Among the three electroless Ni-P composite coatings, the corrosion resistance is in the following order: Ni-P-CeO 2 =Ni-P-Si 3 N 4 >Ni-P-TiO 2 .

IntroductionL'eau diffusant dans une peinture provoque son gonflement [1] et peut entraîner une perte d'adhésion, une détérioration des propriétés mécaniques ou un début de corrosion [2] du support. Mais, dans le cas des peintures antisalissures, elle est essentielle en regard de la protection recherchée par solubilisation et libération de molécules bioactives. Le phéno-mène de pénétration d'eau dans les films de peintures antisalissures reste encore peu étudié bien qu'il soit au centre de l'hydrolyse, de l'érosion de la peinture et donc de la libé-ration du biocide. Le classement des liants et des charges utilisés dans les formulations selon leur hydrophobie/hydrophilie tient compte avant tout de leur structure chimique, de leur solubilisation dans l'eau et les solvants organiques classiques et prend rarement en compte les mélanges complexes dus à la formulation. Pour une plus grande efficacité de ces peintures et une meilleure compréhension de leur fonctionnement, il est important de mettre en place un protocole de tests analytiques. Notre projet a pour objet de rechercher et de développer des peintures antisalissures biodégradables et d'établir un protocole de tests analytiques.Différentes techniques analytiques permettent de quantifier et de localiser l'eau présente dans le film [3,4].
