Abstract:The New York table beet industry is expanding and has unique challenges to minimize crop loss in both conventional and organic production. Diseases may reduce plant population density and increase heterogeneity in a stand, reduce the duration of time foliage is healthy, and decrease the yield of marketable roots. Physiological response is one of adaptation in plant toward its environment. This is related to plant aBstraKRespon fisiologis merupakan salah satu adaptasi tanaman terhadap lingkungannya. Hal ini sangat terkait dengan produktivitas tanaman karena terjadi perubahan mekanisme fisiologis yang akan menjadi kunci fenotipe dan produktivitas yang dihasilkan. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu (1) untuk mengetahui respon fisiologis tanaman jagung 'Sweet Boy-02' pada perbedaan intensitas cahaya dan penyiraman serta (2) menentukan intensitas cahaya dan penyiraman yang tepat guna peningkatan produktivitas jagung. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan 3 faktor intensitas cahaya (63694, 11408 dan 3897 Lux) dan 3 faktor penyiraman (pemberian air sebanyak 2 L; 1,6 L; 1,2 L). Tiap kombinasi perlakuan dibuat tiga ulangan. Penanaman jagung dilakukan di lahan Sawitsari, Yogyakarta. Jagung dipanen saat berumur 75 hari dengan respon fisiologis yang diamati adalah kadar klorofil, kadar prolin, dan panjang akar sedangkan produktivitas jagung diukur dari berat buah tanpa kelobot. Data dianalisis menggunakan Analisis Sidik Ragam Varian (Anava) dilanjutkan dengan uji Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) pada tingkat signifikansi 5%. Kadar klorofil dan produktivitas tanaman meningkat pada intensitas cahaya L1 (63694 Lux) dan penyiraman W1 (2 L), sedangkan kadar prolin dan panjang akar meningkat pada intensitas cahaya L1 (63694 Lux) dengan penyiraman W2 (1,6 L) dan W3 (1,2 L). Produktivitas jagung paling optimal terdapat pada kombinasi perlakuan L1 (63694 Lux) dengan penyiraman W1 (2 L) ditandai dengan berat tongkol paling besar.Kata Kunci: Adaptasi; Respon fisiologis; Produktivitas; Sweet Boy-02.

Estimation of Sugar Beet Yield and its Dry Matter Partitioning Under Different Irrigation and Nitrogen Levels

In this study, a simple logistic model was developed for estimating total dry matter of sugar beet under different irrigation and nitrogen levels. The experiment was conducted using line source sprinkler irrigation in 2013 and furrow irrigation in 2014. Irrigation treatments were from 44% to 130% of full irrigation and applied nitrogen treatments ranged from 0 to 240 kg N ha -1. Results showed that the model was more accurate in predicting total dry matter at harvest date with the Normalized Root Mean Square Error (NRMSE) amounting to almost 10 percent. After total dry matter estimation, a model was needed for dry matter partitioning between different organs of sugar beet. To achieve this goal, another logistic model was developed and was compared with three revised models. Finally, white sugar content of root dry matter was estimated using a quadratic equation as a function of applied water and nitrogen. Validation results indicated that total and root dry matters, and white sugar yield were estimated fairly well. Results showed that excessive water had negative effects on total dry matter and root dry matter. Also, excessive nitrogen affected root dry matter negatively too, but even the excess had positive effects on total dry matter. In contrast to common belief, our results showed that drought stress reduced both ratios of root to leaf, and root to shoot dry matter.
