Among the vital features of pool water, water pH, free Cl − contents, hardness, water conductivity, and water temperature are most critical for maintaining a healthy and safe swimming environment. [1] Free Cl − is used to attack invading contaminants in water. [2] However, insufficient content of free Cl − makes pool water susceptible to a variety of undesired effects from the born algae and becomes a harbor for water-borne diseases (such as diarrhea, E. coli, cryptosporidium, hepatitis, and skin infections) which may develop from the dispersed biological matters from animals such as body sweat, makeup, body oils, and urine (including pets). [3] Therefore, the pool needs enough free Cl − to kill unwanted pathogens and contaminants. But the
