This paper combines environmental science, inorganic chemistry, water quality monitoring and other disciplines, and uses several representative evaluation methods (WQI, Pn, I-geo, RI) for heavy metals in water and sediments. A preliminary assessment and source analysis of heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cr, Ti, Ni, Cu, As, Pb, Sr) in water and surface sediments of the Fenghe River Basin, Shannxi Province, China was carried out in this study. Results indicate that most of the heavy metals in water are below national water quality standards. Exceptions include Mn, which exceeds national tertiary standards and Cr, which exceeds national drinking water standards. Most heavy metals in the sediments exceed the environmental standard values except Ni. Water quality index (WQI) and Nemero index (Pn) showed the same trend in contamination levels of sampling sites. According to the Geological Accumulation Index method (I-geo) and the Potential Ecological Risk Index method (RI), high concentrations of Cd poses a high ecological risk in some sampling locations. Pearson Correlation Analysis (CA), Hierarchical Clustering Analysis (HCA), Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Positive Matrix Factorization (PMF) models are used to explore the relationships and sources of heavy metals. In general, upstream sources are similar, and middle and lower reaches are easily clustered into a large category except for some specific sampling points. For example, metals in sampling site FHK mainly come from surrounding residents and farms and heavy metals attributes in sampling site SLQ relate to the fact that municipal sewage is collected and treated. The factors or sources of heavy metals in water and sediment are revealed in detail through PMF models. In the water, the average contribution rate of these four source factors for heavy metals is 36.8%, 11.7%, 9.4% and 42.0%, while the average proportion of these four factors for heavy metals in sediment is 8.0%, 29.2%, 23.9% and 38.9% respectively. Results show that the main sources of pollution in the region are urban construction and transportation, electronics industry, machinery manufacturing, tourism and agriculture. These sectors should therefore be given sufficient attention in the prevention and management of heavy metal pollution.

Water is a renewable natural resource, but vulnerable and limited in terms of quantity and quality, which is why its exploitation must be done rationally, so as to ensure a complex recovery and a balanced distribution, depending on needs. The water management activity, which has as object the establishment and application of measures for rational use and control of water resources, quantitative and qualitative, is closely related to meeting the requirements of current legislation on exploitation and protection of water and aquatic ecosystems. In this context, the present paper presents a study carried out during 2019, having as the main objective the qualitative characterization of the Jiu River on the administrative territory of Dolj County (Romania). For this purpose, several water sampling campaigns (12, one for each month) from three control sections, established in partnership with the Jiu - Craiova Water Basin Administration, were carried out. The collected samples were analyzed in the analytical laboratory of the same institution and, on the basis of the obtained results, also considering the main existing sources of pollution, conclusions were drawn regarding the Jiu River water quality in the analyzed sector. Also, we applied an alternative control method whose purpose was to validate the initial conclusions.

Kualitas air di suatu wilayah yang merupakan salah satu indikator lingkungan dapat dievaluasi menggunakan parameter fisika, kimia, dan biologi. Indeks Kualitas Air Indonesia (IKA-INA) dapat digunakan untuk menilai kondisi kualitas air secara menyeluruh pada lokasi dan waktu tertentu. IKA-INA dihitung dengan menggunakan sepuluh (10) parameter yaitu pH, Total Dissolved Solid (TDS), Total Suspended Solid (TSS), Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), NO3, NH3, Total Phosphate (TP) dan fecal coliform. IKA-INA tersebut merupakan indeks kualitas air yang dapat memberikan informasi secara sederhana. Dalam pemanfaatannya, tidak semua data parameter dalam IKA-INA tersebut dapat terpenuhi karena adanya data tidak valid atau data yang hilang. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk memberi alternatif rumusan IKA-INA dengan parameter yang tidak lengkap atau jika tidak semua data dalam parameters tersebut tersedia. Metode yang digunakan dalam menyusun rumusan adalah dengan melakukan koreksi faktor bobot parameter IKA-INA terhadap parameter yang hilang dan nilai Q (nilai sub-indeks). Setelah itu dilakukan uji coba pada nilai baku mutu air dalam Peraturan Pemerintah No. 22/2021 Lampiran VI serta pada data kualitas air sungai yang mewakili kualitas baik dan buruk. Hasil uji coba menunjukkan bahwa bobot parameter terkoreksi dapat digunakan untuk penanganan parameter yang hilang dalam penilaian kualitas air dengan metode IKA-INA. Hasil IKA-INA dengan parameter hilang yang menggunakan bobot terkoreksi dan hasil IKA-INA dengan parameter lengkap mayoritas memberikan status IKA yang tidak berbeda, kecuali untuk parameter fecal coli dan parameter yang mempunyai kadar jauh berbeda terhadap kondisi air secara keseluruhan.
