“…UAVs have been used to monitor the concentration of chlorophyll-a [ 17 , 18 , 19 ] and aquatic vegetation [ 20 , 21 ], spatialize suspended sediments [ 1 ], conduct environmental inspections [ 22 ], study flood events [ 23 ], conduct morphological and hydraulic characterizations [ 24 ], and monitor water pollution [ 25 ]. However, few studies have focused on determining the spectral behavior of water bodies using UAVs to estimate the concentration of multiple OACs.…”

“…The analysis of information on the intensity of component colors from digital photography in graphic software allows the calculation of coefficients allowing the assessment of chlorophyll concentration in surface waters. Initial research using photographs taken with the help of a digital camera placed on a mobile unmanned flying platform indicates the high potential of this solution in the monitoring of inland surface waters [14]. The possibility of assessing the chlorophyll concentration on the basis of the analysis of the spectral characteristics of light reflected from the water surface is also confirmed by preliminary tests carried out with the aid of the presented measuring apparatus.…”

“…In the last few years, we have seen a massive expansion of UAVs. UAVs are most often used in conjunction with multispectral cameras (Guimarães et al 2017;Zhang et al 2019), but there are approaches using only RGB cameras for monitoring water quality (Cândido et al 2016).…”

“…At the end of the statistical evaluation, it was verified with the help of the Mann -Whitney test, that the calculated chlorophyll values are comparable with the recorded values. Cândido et al (2016) suggested that the use of UAV and RGB vegetation indices have good results for monitoring small water bodies. This case study demonstrates that using RGB vegetation indices is efficient and it´s possible to use it for estimate the chlorophyll.…”
