Water Pollution of Wetlands

Abstract: Pollution has become a matter of grave concern at present with all the components of the environment laden with pollutants largely from anthropogenic sources and unplanned urbanization. Inland wetlands are very delicate ecosystems and encompass a variety of water bodies, namely ponds, rivers, swamps, etc. They house some unique floristic patterns that are crucial in the primary productivity and maintaining a balance of the wetland ecosystem. In addition to it, the inland water bodies are also productive and ar… Show more

“…The assessment of water quality around areas influenced by mining industry activities reveals that both copper (Cu) and oil and Fat parameters at the Enim River's upstream, midstream, and downstream sections have surpassed the established quality standards. Specifically, the copper (Cu), iron (Fe), and oil and fat levels of the Enim River exceed the quality standards stipulated in South Sumatra Governor (Datta et al, 2021).…”

“…These efforts must involve multisectoral cooperation and effective policy implementation to safeguard water quality and public health. Land use is an essential factor influencing river water quality (Datta et al, 2021). To minimize the degradation of river water quality, the existing natural capacity of river water to resist pollution needs to be maintained (Dewata and Adri, 2018).…”

“…Freshwater constitutes approximately 2.5 percent of the overall water volume on planet Earth, but in turn, it serves as habitat and the foundation of aquatic biodiversity [2]. Aquatic ecosystems such as lakes, ponds, streams, rivers, and wetlands provide important services for human life such as water security, food security, and economic productivity [3][4][5]. Water is not only a life-sustaining resource for all biotic components, but also a major factor contributing to all developmental activities associated with environmental and cultural processes [6].…”
