Water filling for uncoded communications over parallel gaussian channels

Abstract: We investigate the problem of allocating power to send uncoded information over parallel Gaussian channels. We examine the reason why regular "water-filling" does not work in the uncoded case, and show that a modification of the noise level of each subchannel lets "water-filling" work in this case.
