Was lesen und schätzen deutschsprachige Ökonomen heute?

Abstract: We present the results of a survey among the members of the German Economic Association (Verein für Socialpolitik) concerning the relevance and reputation of economic journals. Our results show that internationally oriented, English journals are rated as most relevant. German journals, however, receive a higher rating of relevance when compared to citation‐based methods. “…This finding is consistent with Ellison's (2011) observation that authors from top universities such as Harvard enjoy greater reputation effects from being at a top university (i.e., Harvard) than from particular journal publications. This paper builds on Bräuninger and Haucap (2003) and analyzes the results of a recent survey among German speaking economists (see Bräuninger, Haucap and Muck, 2011).
