Abstract: Berlin geboren [1]. Sein Vater, der Geheime Sanitätsrat Dr. med. Otto Veit (1822-1883), stammte aus einer bedeutenden deutsch-jüdischen Bankiersfamilie und war selbst Chirurg und Geburtshelfer [1, 2]. Seine Mutter Maria Veit, geb. Malotki von Trzebiatowski († 1903), stammte aus einer alten preußischen Adelsfamilie [1].
