Wapekeka’s COVID-19 Response: A Local Response to a Global Pandemic

Abstract: Two years after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, many nations and communities continue to grapple with waves of infection and social fallout from pandemic fatigue and frustration. In response, this paper, which was inspired by stories of pandemic responses in Wapekeka First Nation (Loukes et al, 2022) and Moose Cree First Nation, will illustrate how other First Nations in Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) managed the pandemic crisis and what steps they took to mitigate the spread of infection and serious illness.
