Vulvar intra-epithelial neoplasia-treatment outcome

Abstract: One hundred and two patients with vulvar intra‐epithelial neoplasia III (VIN III) were analyzed with respect to age, sites of lesion, presence of human papilloma virus (HPV) and recurrence pattern following different treatment modalities. Recurrences were documented in 64% of patients. Patients treated with local excision had a statistically significant lower recurrence rate compared to those who underwent laser vaporization (29% vs 55.8% correspondingly). Recurrence rates were also significantly higher in pat… Show more

“…Vulval, vaginal, anal and penile intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN,VAIN,AIN and PIN) The management of HSIL at other anogenital sites is less clear-cut than for the cervix, and clinicians are sometimes more conservative in the management of grade 2 intraepithelial neoplasia. In former years, VIN 3 was often treated by laser therapy, but latterly, knife-excision has been more widely used as recurrence rates have been shown to be lower (David et al, 1996). Relatively limited disease is easily managed by excision surgery, but when disease is widespread, surgery may not be always cosmetically acceptable.…”
