Vulnerability and physical well-being of caregivers: what relationship?

Abstract: Objectives. To assess relationships among burden, compassion, and well-being and health among an active group of caregivers.Methods. 301 caregivers with female prevalence (F = 61.1%, M = 38.9%) and ages between 18 and 84 years old (average = 38.72; SD 13.36) participated. Evaluation was carried using standardized instruments to assess: Burdens (CBI), dimensions related to Compassion and Burnout (ProQOL-5), State of Well-being (Who-5) and particular health-related domains (Emotional state, Physical health, Depr… Show more

“…Our experience was referred to participants in their early pathological manifestations and to the reasons for symptom formation, all conflicts, defenses and previous traumatic experiences (Wolf et al, 2018). The main scope of this research was to highlight directly and undirectly related phenomena, in order to prevent the typical loss of an adaptive Self (Marchini et al, 2018) and psychological manifestations whose mechanisms can predict the serious incoming pathological realities, their complex denial (Livneh, 2009) and subsequent decreasing quality of life and body satisfaction (Guicciardi et al, 2014; Catalano et al, 2018; Martino et al, 2018) for both patients and caregivers (Ferrario et al, 2017; Settineri et al, 2019b).…”

“…The ZBI-22, validated in various populations, measures subjective burden, with higher scores indicating greater burden (range: 0-88). 9 The original ZBI, which has 29 items on a four-point Likert scale, was later changed to the ZBI-22, which has 22 items on a five-point Likert scale. With the exception of item 22 (0=not at all, 1=a little, 2=moderately, 3=quite a bit, 4=extremely), each item of the ZBI-22 asks, "Do you feel or do you wish."…”

“…The risks are well-known and well-presented in the literature; for 30 years, many classic studies considered the main variables of the subjects assisting patients with heterogeneous pathological conditions and adverse experiences (Provencher, 1996;Greenberg et al, 1997;Shdaifat and Manaf, 2012;Nikmanesh and Shahinfar, 2016;Di Giuseppe et al, 2018, Di Giuseppe et al, 2019bGuicciardi et al, 2019;Marchi et al, 2019). In a previous article, it was highlighted how health professionals could meet diametrically opposed dynamics presenting strengths and significant vulnerabilities (Settineri et al, 2019a, Settineri et al, 2019c. The relationships emerged among variables such as well-being, compassion, burnout, and emotional state, pointed out the possible adverse outcomes that caregivers face.…”
