VQAMap: A Novel Mechanism for Mapping Objective Video Quality Metrics to Subjective MOS Scale

Abstract: The reliable estimation of video quality has become increasingly important with the proliferation of online video services and users becoming more quality aware. A multitude of objective video quality assessment (VQA) metrics with various performance and complexity have been proposed. However, their applicability in real-world scenarios is limited by the lack of clear interpretations of how the metric values reflect the subjective user-perceived video quality. This paper proposes a novel mechanism called VQAMa… Show more

“…However, the Mean Opinion Scores (MOS) gathered from the users through subjective tests remains the most reliable measure of video quality. To this extent, Moldovan et al [23] propose VQAMap, a mechanism that creates generic mapping rules of objective VQA metric values to the MOS scale. VQAMap takes as input subjective data from public VQA databases and automatically creates mapping rules for any VQA metric.…”

“…None of these recent H.265 QoE studies has proposed a QoE prediction model specifically aimed at the scalable extension to H.265 or the 5G context. Also, they only consider packet loss [44][38][39] [45] or address a multi-user scenario where a mapping of an objective metric [46] is used to estimate QoE rather than the cost/benefit trade-off in quality offered by scalable H.265 when congestion is encountered.…”

“…The Loop game was developed as part of EU Horizon 2020 NEWTON project 1 . NEWTON project designs, develops, deploys and evaluates diverse innovative technology based educational solutions that make use of adaptive multimedia, multiple sensorial media delivery, Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) learning, Virtual Teaching and Learning Labs (Virtual Labs), Fabrication Labs (Fab Labs), personalization and gamification in the teaching and learning process [7][8][9][10][11][12]. These solutions are applied in conjunction with different pedagogical approaches including selfdirected, game-based, flipped classroom, and problem-based learning methods to different learner audiences, including students with special educational needs [13][14][15][16][17].…”
