Vortex-induced vibration wind energy harvesting by piezoelectric MEMS device in formation

Abstract: A silicon chip integrated microelectromechanical (MEMS) wind energy harvester, based on the vortex-induced vibration (VIV) concept, has been designed, fabricated, and tested as a proof-of-concept demonstration. The harvester comprises of a cylindrical oscillator attached to a piezoelectric MEMS device. Wind tunnel experiments are conducted to measure the power output of the energy harvester. Additionally, the energy harvester is placed within a formation of up to 25 cylinders to test whether the vortex interac… Show more

“…A similar problem occurs with reinforcement learning (RL), where a learned policy without introduction of randomness always leads to one and only one molecule (policy collapse). Beyond the addition of randomness, several RL-based generators included other mechanisms to increase diversity [ 21 23 ]. These solutions are quite specific to the proposed generator or to the generation method.…”

“…Energies 2020, 13, x FOR PEER REVIEW 2 of 15 reviewed [18,19] in several applications. The vortex-induced vibration method is a common practice used to harvest the kinetic energy of a fluid using piezoelectric transducers [20]. This work reports the comprehensive evaluation of the energy available and harvestable in exhaust gas in different forms, such as thermal, pressure and kinetic, at different positions of the exhaust system, and at different engine operating conditions (engine speed and torque).…”

“…Other RL methods such as Deep Q-Learning are also proven to be a successful way of research. Zhou et al designed new molecules with specific desired properties, formalizing the problem as a Markov Decision Process (MDP) and using a value function to solve [ 12 ].…”
